In the slide show to the right are scenes from Riomaggiore where we spent most of the morning. We first climbed up one side of town, then down the other ending up at the path that connects the 5 villages.

Leaving Riomaggiore, we stopped in Corniglia which sits high up on the hill. There are two ways to get there, take a bus that sits at the bottom waiting for train passengers, or walk. We chose to walk up the road. Later we found there are also a set of stairs. We just wanted to sit, not explore when we reached the village, so we stopped to get lunch before heading on to Vernazza (seen on a separate link). While we were there we met two young, American ladies that were hiking to Monterosso. We told them that if they met us in the square below our hotel at 6 PM, we would give them our train passes which were good for one more day. They said they would.

Just before dinner as we wandered around town, we saw the two young ladies we met earlier in Corniglia. They were sitting exactly where we told them to meet us! We handed off the train tickets and wished our fellow Americans a safe trip, then headed off to dinner.
The images that follow are from the evening meal. At Dimitri's invitation, several of us tried the seafood dish served in an Amphora at a restaurant across the way from Hotel Pasquale. I am showing it here because it just did not feel right to me, to put it at the end of the next page, which I have devoted to the village of Vernazza.

The server brought out several of these large Amphora urns filled with seafood.

Shown in the dish are octopi, squid, mussels, shrimp, and probably a few other types of crustaceans.

The bottle of after dinner wine.
